Easy Peasy No-Sew Pillows

PlacematsI love decorating for different seasons and holidays, but usually shy away from pillows because they are so expensive.  UNTIL NOW!!!  During a recent trip to Home Goods,  I came across these perfect Easter placemats.  Did I mention that it was a set of 4 for $9.99 (yes I was giddy). The second I got home I started on making super easy NO-SEW pillows.

What you’ll need:Materials list

  • Lined placemats
  • Fabric glue (I had Aleene’s Fabric Fusion .63fl oz 1 tube was more than enough)
  • 1 1/2bags of Pillow fill (I used Poly-Fil 32oz bag which I already had)
  • Straight pins (or something to hold the seam together while the glue dries)
  • And something to open the seam ( I used the sewing tool in the photo and no, I have no idea what its called, but I do know it’s used for sewing. You could also just use small scissors)

(side note: I had never used Aleene’s Fabric Fusion before, so I took out my stock pile of Stitch Withery just in case, but the Aleene’s worked like a charm)

First thing I did was open the seam on the bottom just wide enough so that I could slide my hand in. Next I filled the entire cavity with the Poly-Fil.  Now I cannot tell you how much I used for each pillow, but what I can tell you is that I overstuffed them.  The reason being, in this house, dogs lay on top of them, kids sit on them (you get my point right, we LIVE here)!! I’ve discovered from making previous pillows that they flatten out somewhat, so overstuffing works best for me.  Once you’re satisfied with the look of your pillow, you’re ready to close it up. I ran a bead of Aleene’s Fabric Fusion across the entire opening, lined up both sides, and then pressed them together.  Once I had the seam together, I than used straight pins to hold it in place while it dried, which took a couple of hours.
And VOILA!!!! For $10.00 I have 4 new Easter pillows
